SafetyCulture is an operations platform, helping companies like Lowe’s save $1m in loss prevention by switching to digital forms.

If you’re here, you’re probably considering them for your workplace. You may have already signed up to their free plan, had a demo, and played around with the platform.

Hey – you may already be with SafetyCulture but your needs have changed.

Before proposing anything internally, you’re taking one last look at the alternatives.

We’re forms2, one of those alternatives. SafetyCulture is a leading example of what this industry can achieve, but as we’ve learned from clients switching to us, they’re not for everyone.

This guide helps you decide if forms2 or SafetyCulture is the better investment for your business. If you’re stuck – the last reason will settle it.

Why choose forms2?

Faster Learning Curve

SafetyCulture is great, but it can take a while to learn the ropes.

The ability to customise checklists and configure inspections is powerful, but implementing the platform company-wide can be slower than expected.

For example, veteran field members who are used to the good old “pen and paper” approach may need further assistance to navigate the new technology.

forms2 is built to be straightforward.

Whilst you have unlimited customisations, you follow a step-by-step process to create your app. If you’re used to building WYSIYWG websites (think Elementor, Divi etc), using forms2 will be a walk in the park.

Your employees (veterans included) will find using the apps like any other on their mobile phone. If they’re up late at night scrolling on Facebook or watching YouTube Shorts, they’ll be comfortable with your app in no time.

Complete freedom to customise

Despite the longer learning curve, SafetyCulture tries to keep their platform as simple as possible. The flipside is constraints needed to keep it simple.

If your business requires advanced and complex logic (or even custom questions), SafetyCulture may not be the best fit. The API is limited, forcing you in some cases to make a decision between migrating or building a new data infrastructure.

forms2 doesn’t limit you with set templates.

You build every app from scratch with built-in logic that handles the most complex of situations. New integrations and connectors are always being added, so no matter what you use, we’ll fit into your current stack, rather than building your IT stack around us.

Quicker syncing between devices

SafetyCulture isn’t the best when you’re on a lengthy, detailed job that includes multiple devices.

Synchronisation takes a while and there’s nothing worse when you’re in the zone and you’re snapped out of it as you wait for devices to “talk to each other”. In some cases, the sync fails and important photos and data aren’t saved.

With forms2, your data is synced automatically.

Between devices (and the office), the team can access, query, and update the sources directly. If you’re offline, the data is saved locally and uploaded as soon as you get back online.

Why choose SafetyCulture?

Templates

SafetyCulture has over 179,000 checklists and forms for you to use straight away. Covering, cleaning, incident reports, and more, these are perfect for new users to click and use straight away.

forms2 currently doesn’t have templates available.

If your industry is straightforward, without many factors affecting the end results of your form, then SafetyCulture may be the best call here.

However, if there’s a lot of “if it’s X, then do Y, but if it’s A, do Z instead”, then forms2 is better for you. You can customise the logic and workflow to match exactly your needs, no matter how complex.

Less than 10 employees

If your data capture app has less than 10 employees requiring access (backend included), SafetyCulture may be better for you. Their free plan allows you to conduct unlimited inspections and capture issues and observations.

If you’re planning on never exceeding 10 employees – stick with SafetyCulture.

But, if you’re planning growth at any time in the future, you need to make a decision now if SafetyCulture is the best long-term option.

Compare pricing, and you’ll see very little difference ($29 vs $25 per user per month). Compare features and, from our conversations with clients who came to forms2 from SafetyCulture, our features and customisability may be worth it in the long-term.

No one likes migrating from one platform to another, so make the right choice now.
